I landed abruptly on my feet after teleporting from eastern Michigan’s town Shellbytownship and found myself on the other side of the state in a small town called Stevensville, which I’ve heard the locals refer to it as Stevenshthrill. It is nestled in-between St. Joseph and Bridgeman. St. Joseph is a hotspot for Chicago vacationers, and Bridgeman is basically all farms. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, and here I was stuck in the middle with nothing to do.
It was early in the morning so I found myself a place to have breakfast called Bert’s. As I walk into the tiny diner, I see waitress pouring coffee to the old men hanging around the counter and one of them comes up to me and tells me to take a seat. I settle into a booth right by the door and browse the menu. I decide on the Hungry Mountain. I scarf down the heaping pile of breakfast and make my way through downtown Stevensville, and it does not take me very long. I pass a couple of hair dressers, a thrift store, a church, and turn the corner of the street to see the lake in the distance.
After walking in the direction of the lake for awhile, I run into some large sand dunes at a place called Grand Mere Park. I see there is a short cut to the lake, but I feel like exploring so I follow the trail. Since it is winter, I find people sledding down its bumpy hills. One of them has an extra saucer and I give it a go. Sand and snow fly into my face in my exhilarating slide down the dune. I did not realize how bumpy it would be and I go soaring off a little bit of sand that was sticking out and crash, rolling down the dune in the process. I lie there in the snow for awhile, letting it fall on my face, breathing in the fresh air, and hear the crashing of the waves right beside me.
Once I finally get to the lake I see windsurfers catching some waves. I was surprised people surfed on Lake Michigan, especially in the winter, but I guess if your body suit is thick enough along with your skin the icy temperatures will stop some people. To the left I see Cook Nuclear Plant, and to the right I see the neighboring towns of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor, and straight ahead I see the skyline of Chicago, well at least I would if it was a clearer day out. I walk along the beach picking up different rocks and tossing them across the water. I make my way back to the dunes and into town. I find myself on John Beers Road in the center of it all. I see the high school called Lakeshore, and its parking lot is filled with cars of students in class. I see a place called Martins Supermarket, and I think “huh what a funny name for a supermarket”. It’s new building obviously remodeled within the past few years, and I take a little stroll around it. I end my travel in the bakery section of Martins and see they have a wide selection of doughnuts. I pick the raspberry jelly one and take it over to the cashier to pay for it. After I finish my purchase I bite into it and finally know I have found some amazing doughnuts. I soon realize school has let out and a bunch of middle schoolers come racing into the store and I decide that is my cue to leave. So I tapped the space watch three times and was out of there. Peace out Stevensthrill.
